Objective: Enabling apartment residents to charge their electric vehicles

Electric Car Chargers UK (ECC UK) successfully designed and installed an EV charging solution for a new development of apartments located in Little Stanion, near Corby, Northants.

The development consists 135 house, with a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties, 66 two bedroom luxury apartments across four blocks, and a commercial area with retail units.

JME Developers were looking for a simple solution that would:

  • Provide accessible EV charging for the residents
  • Reimburse the landlords supply
  • Future proof the development

ECC UK were able to install a solution that enabled the resident to pay for their usage, which would reimburse the Management Company for the cost of the landlord supply, and the equipment had a built-in load management capability to allow additional charging points to be added in the future, without the need of increasing the power supply.

ECC UK will be supporting this ongoing development at Little Stanion for JME Developments. To learn more about our solution:

Little Stanion Solution
Potential for 6 x 22kW NewMotion Business Line PRO sockets installed for private residential use
Load managed system allowing available power to be spread across additional sockets in the future
Future proofed installation – easy to add more sockets in the future
24/7 contact support and annual service
Payment system to allow management company to be reimbursed for usage

22kW output sockets

22kW charging point positioned in designated EV parking bays enable the resident to enjoy faster charging than a standard 7kW charging unit that would be typically installed on a standard residential property. Each charging point can typically keep 14 electric vehicles on the road and with each apartment block having less than 30 dwellings, and the capacity for an additional charging point to be installed, the development will be fully future proofed.

Easy activation and reimbursement

We specified a NewMotion solution, part of the Shell Group, which allows the residents to easily activate their charging sockets for use, and the cost for the supply of the electricity then reimburses the management company. The management company had two options to manage these payments, either:

  • Take a payment at the time of use, or
  • Each of the residents could have an activation fob which is presented to the unit and this accumulates the electricity used during the month, and the management company bill the user at the end of each month.
