Who are OLEV?

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) have been appointed by the UK Government to manage and distribute Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) funding for electric car charge points.

What is the Workplace Charging Scheme?

Businesses can claim up to £10,000 off the cost of your EV charging points under the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS).

Companies can purchase up to 20 EV charging points at a subsidised cost, with each charging unit having as much as £500 price reduction provided you enable that unit to be 2 way.

What does 2 way mean?

The Government are incentivising eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations to provide workplace electric car charging facilities for the staff, customers and visitors.

In return for the WCS grant funding, OLEV require monthly data reports on each EV charging point’s usage across the country for the next 3 years, enabling them to better understand the current levels of EV usage.

These monthly data reports require no effort from the companies under the scheme and has no impact on the WCS funding you will have received.

How can you apply and claim a WCS grant fund?

Being approved by OLEV, we help make the WCS application process very easy. There are options for businesses to apply for the funding, however we recommend you follow the below steps:

  1. Understand your charging requirements
  2. Get a full quotation from an approved installer
  3. Calculate the total number of charge points you require
  4. When you are happy to proceed, apply for the WCS grant – or ask ECC UK to do this for you (Based on £500 per charge point)
  5. Receive a voucher from OLEV and present this to your installer who will discount this from your total invoice

IMPORTANT: Do not claim for your WCS grant funding before you have received a quotation. The WCS voucher will have an expiry date, so the clock starts ticking as soon as you receive it.

How is VAT applied to WCS Grant Funding?

It is important for businesses to be aware that OLEV WCS grant funding is not subject to VAT. The WCS voucher is a discount off the total value of your invoice (gross of VAT) and you reclaim VAT for total value of the original invoice. Make sure your OLEV installer presents you with a correct quotation and invoice that represents the VAT correctly.

Looking for incentives to switch your fleet to electric?

We can help you find the right solution for switching your fleet to a more environmentally solution.

Eligible small businesses, charities and public sector organisations can combine a Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) funding, along with OLEV’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) which offers funding for home charging, where also eligible.

This does have it’s limitations, but our assessment will determine whether this will be your best solution.

What solutions are available for large organisations?

There are incentives available for large organisations, and they are often considered on their individual merits.

We offer a free consultation with large organisations who looking to understand what available to them, as well as all of things they need to consider when looking to switch their commercial fleets to electric.
