The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) have announced a number of changes to their grant funding schemes.

OZEV grant funding for businesses

OZEV are providing Corporate businesses, SME and Commercial Landlords with considerable grant funding contributions to support the implementation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Learn more more about their funding schemes and grant funding opportunities that are available to you

OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme – All businesses

EligibilityGrant funding opportunityHow to apply
Be a registered UK business, charity or public sector organisation
Up to £14,000

The grant covers up to 75% of the total cost to purchase and install EV chargepoints
 
£350 per socket
40 sockets across all sites per applicant

OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme – SMEs

EligibilityGrant funding opportunityHow to apply
This grant is for small and medium sized businesses (SME’s)

The business must have 249 employees or less.
 
The business must be registered at Companies House or be VAT registered with HMRC.
Up to £75,000

A business can receive up to 5 grants in total. Each grant must be for a different site that the business owns, leases or rents.
 
Each grant application can be for up to a maximum of £15,000.
 
For charging infrastructure:
£500 for each parking space that the charging infrastructure will provide a unique chargepoint socket to, either from installed chargepoints or those that will be installed at a future date via the future connection locations.
 
For chargepoints:
£350 towards the cost of buying and installing each chargepoint socket provided. This is in addition to the amount available for providing a space with charging infrastructure.

A minimum of 5 parking spaces must be provisioned with charging infrastructure and at least one of which must have a working chargepoint.

OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme – Small Accommodation Businesses

EligibilityGrant funding opportunityHow to apply
An accommodation business categorised as having 249 employees (staff) or less.

Using the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes,
5510: hotels and similar accommodation
5520: holiday and other short-stay accommodation
5530: camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks
Up to £14,000

The grant covers up to 75% of the total cost to purchase and install EV chargepoints
 
£350 per socket
40 sockets across all sites per applicant

OZEV funding for Commercial Landlords

EligibilityGrant funding opportunityHow to apply
This grant is for Commerical Landlords that rent, lease or manage commercial properties
 
You may apply for this grant if you are one of the following:
 
– companies owning the freehold of a leased or rented property
– companies owning a building’s common areas

The company may comprise of shareholders who are the leaseholders

You must be registered at Companies House. If you do not have this, you must be VAT registered with HMRC. If you are not registered at either, you will not be eligible for the grant.
Maximum value not defined

You can receive up to 100 grants each financial year. The financial year runs from 6 April to 5 April the following year.
 
You can only apply for one building or estate per application.
 
You can get funding towards 75% of the total cost of buying and installing an OZEV approved chargepoint, up to a maximum of £350 per socket installed.

OZEV grant funding for residential car parks

OZEV have increased their grant funding contributions to support the implementation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure for residential developments. Residential Landlords and Housing Associations can learn more about how the new OZEV funding schemes and grant funding opportunities can benefit their residents:

OZEV Residential Car Parks Scheme

EligibilityGrant funding opportunityHow to apply
This grant is for entities that rent, lease or manage residential properties (referred to as landlords in this guidance) and want to install EV chargepoints on those properties.
 
You may apply for this grant if you are one of the following:
 
– landlord of a property that lets the property
– right to manage (RTM) company
– residents’ management company (RMC)
– companies owning the freehold of a leased or rented property
– companies owning a building’s common areas (the company may comprise shareholders who are the leaseholders, the company may also manage the building)
– property listed on the property factor register
– private registered providers of social housing (PRP)
– housing associations
– public authorities
– charities

You must be registered at Companies House. If you do not have this, you must be VAT registered with HMRC. If you are not registered at either, you will not be eligible for the grant.
 
Up to £30,000

You can receive up to 30 grants per financial year. The financial year runs from 6 April to 5 April the next year.
 
For charging infrastructure:
£500 for each parking space that the charging infrastructure will provide a unique chargepoint socket to, either from installed chargepoints or those that will be installed at a future date via the future connection locations.
 
For chargepoints:
£350 towards the cost of buying and installing each chargepoint socket provided. This is in addition to the amount available for providing a space with charging infrastructure.
 
The grant cap
The total amount of grant funding available cannot be more than 75% of the cost of the installation of the chargepoints and infrastructure charged to the customer (as stated on your invoice).
 
The amount available per grant is capped at £30,000.
 
A minimum of 5 parking spaces must be provisioned with charging infrastructure, at least one of which must have a working chargepoint.
 
Each grant application can be for up to a maximum of £30,000. Only 1 grant is permitted per building. If more chargepoints are needed in addition to those provided by this grant, then the EV chargepoint grant for landlords may be used.
 
The property must be a multi-unit residential property, such as an apartment block or an estate consisting of multiple buildings sharing a common parking area. The car park must have at least 5 parking spaces that are clearly marked.
 
Where a multi-unit property is mixed use (for example, commercial and residential units), applications can only be made for parking spaces allocated to its residential units.
