How much does commercial EV charger installation cost?

Every site is different, which is why we never quote from a price list. The main things that move the price are your electrical supply capacity, the distance from your distribution board to the parking bays, any groundworks needed, and whether load management can avoid a supply upgrade. A small workplace installation with one or two sockets close to the supply is a very different job to a fleet depot with dedicated rapid chargers.

Two free tools give you a realistic picture before you speak to anyone: our cost estimator shows an indicative price for your kind of site, and our payback calculator shows how quickly workplace charging pays for itself. You can also read our guide to EV charger installation costs. For an exact figure, a free site survey gets you a written quotation with grants already deducted, usually confirmed within one working day.

How many charge points does your business need?

A useful starting rule: count the electric vehicles you expect on site on a normal day within the next two years, not just today. For staff charging, one socket per four to five EV drivers usually works because vehicles are parked all day and can rotate. For fleets, it depends on dwell time: vans that return overnight can share slower chargers, while short dwell fleets need fewer but faster units. Public and visitor bays earn their keep at a lower ratio again.

We design for expansion, so cabling and capacity are sized once and extra sockets are added cheaply later. The payback calculator helps you test scenarios, and the free survey confirms what your supply can support.

Common questions about commercial EV charging installation

How long does installation take?

Most workplace installations of one to four charge points are completed in a single day once the survey and quotation are agreed. Larger projects such as fleet depots or multi site rollouts are planned around your operations, including out of hours work where needed.

Do we need planning permission?

In most cases, no. Wall mounted and post mounted charge points in lawful off street parking areas are generally covered by permitted development rights. Listed buildings and some special sites are the exception. We check this for you as part of the survey.

What grants can we claim in 2026?

The Workplace Charging Scheme currently offers up to £500 per socket for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations, and residential landlords can claim further chargepoint grants for rental properties. As OZEV approved installers we handle the paperwork and identify everything you qualify for, which can be worth up to £75,000. Start with our grant eligibility checker.

Can our electricity supply cope with EV chargers?

Usually yes, and smart load management often removes the need for a supply upgrade by balancing charging around your building's demand. The site survey measures your available capacity and, where an upgrade genuinely is needed, we manage the application with your network operator.

Who looks after the chargers once installed?

We do. Every installation is certified and handed over with warranties registered, and our maintenance and support cover keeps your charge points earning. One company is accountable from survey to aftercare, with our own engineers and no subcontractors.
