Alto Works Road, Letchworth Garden City
ECCUK were appointed to deliver a full commercial EV charging solution at Alto Works Road, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, following an internal Ask the Team survey that highlighted the growing need for workplace EV charging facilities. With increasing numbers of electric and hybrid vehicles on-site, the client required a future-proof, reliable charging infrastructure that could be installed with minimal disruption to an extremely busy car park.
Scope of Works
The ECCUK team designed and installed a complete commercial charging setup featuring:
• Three 22kW Easee EV chargers mounted within the on-site car park
• Power supply taken directly from the main building source
• A new feeder pillar and distribution board installed within the car park
• Over 50 metres of groundworks, including trenching and reinstatement of block paving.
• Thermoplastic EV Bay markings for clarity, safety, and compliance
• Integration with the Easee Back Office system, utilising RFID access control
The whole Installation was completed over three consecutive weekends to minimise operational impact. This approach ensured a neat, durable installation designed to scale with future demand.
Technical Delivery
To support the new chargers, we diverted power from the main electrical intake and routed it to a purpose-built feeder pillar positioned within the car park. Our engineers installed a robust armoured cable along the 50-metre route, completing all trenching, ducting, and reinstatement with precision so the car park returned to its original condition. Once power infrastructure was in place, the team mounted and commissioned the three Easee 22kW chargers, chosen by the client for their flexibility, smart-charging capabilities, and compatibility with commercial back-office systems. The phased weekend installation strategy allowed the facility to remain fully operational Monday to Friday, significantly reducing disruption for staff and visitors.
Back Office & Future Scalability
The client opted to begin with the Easee Back Office platform, using RFID cards for controlled access and energy monitoring. With EV usage expected to increase, the client has also expressed interest in transitioning to a pay-to-charge operator model in the future— a seamless upgrade supported by the Easee system’s open architecture.
Results
• Fully operational commercial charging system
• Future-ready infrastructure capable of supporting additional chargers• Minimal disruption due to weekend-only work schedule
• Improved sustainability credentials for the site
• Enhanced convenience for EV-driving employees and visitors
